Traditional Mongolian Medicine believes that hair breakage, alopecia areata, grey hair are categorized into disorders of head and are separate illnesses. This time, I would like to talk about causes and treatments of hair breakage.

It’s a well known fact that dying your hair or having a perm damages your hair. Aside from it, excessive nutrients or nutritional deficiency both can be the reason for hair loss. Besides, disorders of serous fluid, known as chu ser in Tibetan term, phlegm disorders, decreased state of seven bodily sustainers and hair follicle abnormalities all can contribute to hair loss.

Some people assume that shampoos cause damage to their hairs and change their shampoos, but that’s not the case. In addition to using different hair care products, we should be committed to a healthy diet. Lately, almost everyone is concerned about eating healthy and I think some people have wrong perception of healthy diet. Mongolia is known for its extreme weather and its people have had a particular diet depending on the weather and their lifestyles for centuries but such tradition barely exists today. Poor diets pose a greater risk to our bodies than malnutrition. Constant intake of sweet and salty food in the long run can cause hot disorders in our bodies, leading to blood thickness, hot disorders associated with blood and serosal fluid and this can ultimately lead to folliculitis and hair loss.

Malnutrition on development of bones and strict diet for weight loss can cause hair loss but not quite often. Especially, younger children are at a greater risk of hair dryness and hair loss due to strict diet at their ages as it is a period in which children must be having nutrient-rich foods. Due to inadequate nutrition intake, weakened state of resistance can also cause discoloration of hair, nail and skin. Therefore, healthy eating is the main source of having good hair.

Given the extreme cold weather, hair can also be damaged by it. Not wearing a hat during cold seasons such as winter, spring and late autumn as well as blow drying your hair excessively can cause hair to break and thin over time. Therefore, you need to apply a variety of essential oils to your hair to protect it, especially Mongolian yellow butter and special oil obtained from lard. Last but not least, washing your hair with hot water constantly is another cause of hair breakage.
